Definetly have your vet check that she is ready physically, our vet recommends 24 months for first timers
I bred mine between 18-20 months.
Youngest here was 12 months. At 10 months and 110 lbs, she wouldn't just sit by the fence when there was a breeding, she'd mount one of the llamas, and the llama would sit for her.
Oldest was 29 months. She just didn't act like an adult until then.…
I looked at all of our girls' records. With the new Alpacaease 5, it's easy to scroll through and see.
Most were within 7-8 days on all gestations. A few were within 18 days. One is all over the board from one year to the next, with a 39 day range.
Of course the age should be at least 14 -16 months for the first try.
You can breed females at anytime if open. You can rebreed females 21 days after birth. They will accept the male within a few minutes or they will spit them off and not settle down.
My rules are 18 months and at least 100 pounds AND if receptive meaning.......flirting with the boys, tail up, clucking, cushing next to fence when breeding others. We have found that a few of our maidens really just were not ready and receptive to…
They do say that a lot of the girls will have around the same days pregnant as in the past and around the same times as well. Always keep a record so when and if you sell those girls down the road, the new owners have something to go by!
It depends. I have some girls who were bred for the first time right around 14 months. I have bred others at 18 months. I have one girl who was bred for the first time last year at the age of 4. Up until that time she just wasn't receptive. I think…

- My husband and I decided to give raising alpacas a try a little over a year ago. The tax write off played a large part in our decision but the alpacas themselves are what really made the decision. We both work full time at other jobs. Which I am very greatful for now. We live on just 5 acres in Oakdale, CA. We have 3 daughters ages 18, 15, and 12. We are all animal lovers and have always had some animal to take care of. They teach us so much. The relationship between mom and baby always amazes me.

We do love animals. We thought a lot about what animals to get before deciding on what we have. We have alpacas, mini dairy goats, chickens, a young pair of mini cheviot sheep, and 4 guard llamas, 2 of whom are a breeding pair. We also have 2 dogs and a cat. I like animals I feel comfortable handling, and that are safe with kids. So, no horses. A horse kicked a friend of mine accidentally and broke her hip and her knee. My biggest llama kicked me accidentally, and I had a bruise.
