I was watching too. I think the prices were good for the economy today, perhaps a little better than others. I enjoy watching them online. Some really nice animals... wish I had some money too.. but we need to get electric and water run to the barns.

We are brand new breeders and it's all MaryAnn's fault!!! Well, not exactly :)
We lived in Palm Bay and moved to Kentucky in May 2008. We did a bit of research and then saw an article in the local paper about MaryAnn's farm. So I zipped off an email and asked if I could stop by for a visit. That was in Jan 2007. Then a visit to FABA that year and we were hooked. In March 2007 we attended the Kentcuky Classic and visited many farms before finding our first two females who arrived from Canada at Alpaca's of Cedar Ridge. Our first cria, Americano's Dreamweaver has done well in the ring with 3 ribbons his first year. I love going to and participating in the shows.

What I learned on Shearing Day

Yesterday was shearing day at my agisting farm. I arrived at 8:00AM Central Time... the shearers showed up shortly after that.... and began their preparations. By 8:30 we were in the barn with the first animal down on the ropes. With 47 Alpacas and one VERY hairy Pyr we started what was a fast furious shearing day with fleece flying, shears buzzing and Alpacas screaming !!! One shearer with One helper, 5 able bodied farm hands (two newbies) , 1 slightly disabled farm hand (shoulder surgery) work… Continue

What I learned at the show ......

I just returned from the Indiana Invitational in Ft. Wayne. This having been my first really large show I learned lots of valuable information. Some people with more show experience may see these things as common and expected at shows, but for me... it was a lesson learned and we all need to learn something every day to keep those brain juices flowing !!!

Indiana is FLAT !!! Just like most of Florida. From the time I entered the state from Kentucky it was pretty much flat farm land all the way… Continue

It's a BOY !!!.... again

Yes, we had another male cria born today, 10 days early. All is fine, ears are up, teeth erupted... he's nursing fine and she has plenty of milk. I have not seen him yet as he is agisted about 1 hour away from me. I was there all weekend for Farm Days.... do you think she could have delivered then... NOOOOO But one of their females delivered another male from the same sire as mine on Saturday during Farm Day !!!... she was right on her due date.

He's white and weighed in at 15 lbs. Same as the… Continue

Hi
We make our socks here in PA, but we purchase our yarn from Peru because we haven't been able to find a source in the US that can give us as good a price. The mill we get the yarn from is a long established mill that sends us real good %100 fs alpaca yarn. --We are also working with a few cottage mills in the US that send us the yarn from their customers fiber for us to make socks out of. We are selling our socks wholesale - $9short, $12crew, $14boot. They have the terry cushion inside and are made with two strands run together so that they are extra durable and go through the wash better. We are getting new colors before we decide on which ones to continue with.. we have a couple shades of purple and recently dark blue and turquoise as well as natural colors. Our socks are heavyweight(sport/slipper), but we just got some lighterweight yarn and can offer a mediumweight (everyday work) socks in ivory. The socks are sooo soft and comfortable. We love them.
Thanks for your interest!

Hi Margie! Nice to meet you. It's frustrating how long it has taken us, but I think we're almost there. My goal is to have everything finished and bring our alpacas here by August 1. We just had two cria born last week, so now we are up to 9 and by June it'll be 11. I'm sure we'll get to meet at Kentucky Classic this fall. Do you have some to show? We'll have at least one to show, as it looks so far.

Hi Margie,
Thank you for the greeting from way back in august. I am really bad about staying on top of internet chat. I missed the Ian Watt webinar, even though I was looking forward to it.
