HELLO, I FELL IN LOVE WITH ALPACAS WHEN I SAW MY FIRST ONE. IT TOOK ABOUT 3 MONTHS BEFORE I OWNED ANY. NOW I HAVE TWO, AND I HONESTLY LOVE THEM. I HAVE BEEN TEACHING THEM TO WALK ON A LEAD, ONE IS DOING REAL WELL, THE OTHER-WELL, IT IS A BATTLE OF THE WILLS, BUT WE ARE GETTING THERE. I WOULD LIKE TO LEARN TO SPIN, FOR NOW THOUGH I HAVE A FRIEND THAT KNITS, AND SHE IS GOING TO MAKE ME MY FIRST AFGAN(?) FROM MY YARD. ANYHOW, I LOVE MY GIRLS, AND SINCE I AM NEW TO THIS WORLD I AM OPEN TO ALL ADVISE :) . THANKS

Hi Polly, Yes I spin, knit, crochet etc. It is getting harder to find the time though with a growing herd. Just had 4 new babies since Oct.

If it gets too wet... just take it off and let it air dry. Then try again later when its dry.
I wash fiber all the time and it rarely felts. And when it does, it's usually not enough to worry about. I can pull it apart with my fingers. It is usually along the edges/ends of the fiber. Carding takes care of any i miss...

Hi Polly,

you only need a hint of moisture... or you might try a dryer sheet held over the fiber as it goes thru the carder...

Sheep - I only have one Ram and two Ewes. Also twin boys from one of the ewes. All are black which includes brown and gray shades. The ram got so fat he couldn't mount the ewes so no lambs in two years. He has been on a diet since spring and is in with the girls but I haven't seen any breeding. Sure hope for lambs this spring or the diet will continue! No, sorry, none for sale now. Sheep are a lot more work than alpacas! But very friendly and worth the work.
